How to play

Click Start bow once, then tap chords or notes. The bow keeps going when you lift your finger. Click Stop bow or Stop to finish. Chord pads play two-string violin harmonies.

Chords and Notes are always ready below the violin. G, D, A and E choose the open strings. You can also drag across the violin to bow or slide along its neck.

Choose a tune and click Game mode. Play the single green pad marked PLAY. The quiet Then row previews later notes; those are not ready yet. The green pad moves immediately after each click. If it stays on the same note, tap it again. Bowed notes keep sounding between clicks. Try Chord garden for chords.

Click Start bow and use Bow speed to hear slower or faster repeated bow strokes, from 0.5× to 2×. It also adjusts the suggested Game rhythm and Listen tempo. Change it while playing; the pitch stays the same.

In 3D view, keep playing the violin. Drag the background or right-drag to rotate; scroll to zoom. On touchscreens, use two fingers to rotate and pinch.

About the sound

65 real solo-violin recordings performed by Lily Lyons, from VSCO 2 Community Edition under CC0. Soft and loud bowed recordings retain natural vibrato; pizzicato includes alternate takes. Start bow repeats recorded attacks with crossfades. Chords combine two solo recordings; slides and extra vibrato are modeled.

Record captures the instrument without a microphone. Save a take before recording another or closing the page.
